Septic Tank Pumping in Bali: A Practical Guide for Villa Guests, Owners & Managers
Oleh Tim Sedot WC Bali • 1 November 2026

Picture the scene: your guests land in Bali in the evening, the villa in Canggu is spotless, and then the downstairs toilet starts gurgling like it is trying to say something. By morning there is a smell near the garden drain. In most cases this is not a plumbing mystery at all — the septic tank is simply full, and the fix is a routine job called septic tank pumping (in Indonesian: sedot WC).
This guide is written for people who did not grow up with septic tanks: villa guests, owners, and property managers. It covers how to recognise a full tank, what the service costs in Bali, and exactly what happens when you book it.
How do you know the septic tank is actually full?
The reliable signs are slow or gurgling flushing, bad smells around drains or the garden, water pooling near the tank, and — in late stages — waste backing up into the lowest bathroom. One sign alone can have other causes, but two or three together almost always mean the tank has no room left and needs pumping, not more flushing.
| Sign you notice | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Toilet flushes slowly or gurgles | The tank is nearly full; air and water are competing for space |
| Sewage smell near drains or the yard | Gases escape because the tank can no longer hold contents properly |
| Wet, unusually green patch of grass | Liquid is seeping out near a full or overloaded tank |
| Several drains slow down at the same time | The problem is downstream — the tank, not one pipe |
| Waste backing up in the lowest bathroom | Emergency stage: stop using water and book pumping now |
If only one fixture in the house is slow, suspect a local blockage instead. If the whole house is affected, think tank first.
How much does septic tank pumping cost in Bali?
At Sedot WC Bali, septic tank pumping starts from Rp 70,000, grey water pumping from Rp 50,000, and restaurant or catering grease waste from Rp 75,000. These are starting prices: the final amount depends on the sludge volume, tank size, hose access, and distance, and it is always agreed with you on WhatsApp before work begins — never invented afterwards at your gate.
| Service | Starting price |
|---|---|
| Septic tank / toilet pumping (sedot WC) | Rp 70,000 |
| Grey water / dirty water pumping | Rp 50,000 |
| Restaurant & catering grease waste | Rp 75,000 |
Why does the total vary so much between two villas on the same street? A small tank that is pumped regularly is quick work. A tank that has been left for a decade holds compacted sludge at the bottom, and that takes longer to lift. Honest pricing follows the actual job, which is why we confirm it in the chat first.
What happens when you book?
Booking is deliberately simple, because nobody books septic pumping for fun:
- Chat us on WhatsApp at 0899-8000-805 — English is fine. Send your location pin and two or three sentences about what you are seeing (or smelling).
- We confirm the estimate and time in the chat, based on your area — we serve all of Bali, from Canggu and Seminyak to Ubud and beyond.
- The vacuum truck arrives and the crew runs a hose to your tank. You do not need to prepare anything except a clear path to the tank cover.
- The tank is emptied down to the sludge layer, the cover is closed again, and the area is left tidy. A standard job takes about 30 to 60 minutes.
One safety rule while you wait: never mix drain chemicals — acid, bleach, and drain opener together can create dangerous gas and damage pipes. If sewage is actively backing up, stop running water in the house and just wait for the truck; it is a short-term inconvenience, not a DIY project.

You do not need to book or pay for anything. Tell your host or villa manager what you noticed — slow toilet, smell, gurgle — and let them arrange it; pumping is normal property maintenance in Bali, not damage you caused. Avoid pouring anything chemical into the toilet in the meantime, and if one bathroom is backing up, simply use another one until the crew has been.
Managing or owning the villa?
Build pumping into your calendar the way you already schedule pool and garden care. Tanks serving busy villas fill faster than family homes, and the cheapest pumping is always the one done before guests arrive, not during their stay. Keep a note of your tank’s location and last pumping date — future you, standing in the garden with a flashlight, will be grateful.
Guests checking out this morning and new ones arriving tonight? Tell us in the chat. We work 24 hours, and for properties further from our Pedungan base we will agree on a fixed arrival window with you in advance.
A full septic tank feels dramatic, but in Bali it is one of the most routine calls a service like ours gets. If your villa’s drains are talking to you, send us the location pin on WhatsApp and we will take it from there.
